Leveraging APEC 2013’s Momentum for Indonesia

“Raise the Awareness of Local SMEs and Products Existence”

We as the young Indonesians should not miss our opportunity to be able to leverage APEC moment, in order to raise Indonesia’s competitiveness within the Asia-Pacific region or even possibly in the global market, since Indonesia is the host country for the 2013’s APEC Summit in Bali.
After following numbers of APEC or ABAC related news in the media for the past months, there are some discussions which have caught my thinking sense to have an idea of making them as a stepping stone for Indonesia to maturing its economy in the globalized world. I would not provide any data or numbers in my writing, it is all about my own daily observation and preferences which are basically similar to the others, I believe.

How SMEs ‘Take Over’ Indonesia?

The discussable topic which is also the most-talked about theme at APEC-related events is Small and Medium Enterprises or abbreviated as SMEs. In Indonesia itself we know it as Usaha Kecil dan Menengah or UKM/UMKM. From the information that I have obtained, I come to know that APEC really stretches on this sector with a thinking that SMEs are one of the machines that tend to empower the national economy. Indonesia with a mixed cultural society and the willingness of its people to live a decent life economically has successfully aroused the people’s desire to create their own kind of businesses. This makes us as one of the countries with more and more mushroomed SMEs. It easily can be seen that Indonesia is quite capable to manufacture or produce its own local products.

As we walk down the streets in Jakarta or even the other parts of Indonesia, we get the chance to explore more interesting ‘in-house’ products. Matters of fact, food and beverages as well as fashion and handicrafts are the products those held most of the markets and the most dominating types of SMEs that people in Indonesia are familiar with and able to warmly welcome as well as willing to spend for these products.
We can take Bandung as an example on its fashion-related SMEs. I am certain that we all know that Bandung is known as the Paris of Indonesia, that is quite familiar with the name of ‘Paris Van Java’. We can get bundles of fashion items with reasonable prices, wearable and catchy. Most of the manufacturers are the young entrepreneurs who are running small factories or convections and grow their passion through fashion businesses.

If Bandung can be taken as the examples for fashion SMEs, Medan could become one of the instances as the place with most growing SMEs specializing in culinary. Cuisines like snacks, pickles, juice, cakes, traditional foods, ice cream and others will easily can be spotted in the capital of North Sumatra. And how about handicrafts? Everyone knows that Bali is the one who holds the trophy for this. Aside from Bandung, Medan and Bali, other cities in Indonesia also have their own signature products, all manufactured by SMEs.

But unfortunately, Indonesian government does not put enough concern on the development of micro businesses. Even though so, we could not blame the government because they have more complicated problems to solve. That is why we as the juveniles should realize our role in order to help ‘home-made’ products to be accepted internationally.

Role of Young Generation?

In my opinion, we should improve some things those are hampering our products to be competitive amongst the flow of imported products in Indonesian market. According to my observation, our products are not getting enough trust from the customers. As a simple example is the production of a local branded bags collection. I found there are still a number of bag sellers in the market that have imported bags or even copy the same kind of luxury bags. It automatically leads the society to go over these bags. This is not only applicable for bags but also other products. With the existence of these unfair businesses, the original products of our nation could lose against the global market.

Originally, we badly need governments hands to clear the mentioned issues, but in a simplest way we could also help starting from the bottom, which is the self-consciousness. We should reload our self-confidence in wearing local products. As the youngsters, those who are likely into trends and always updated, we have to be fully responsible in bringing the awareness towards the local products. By wearing, using or consuming and promoting the local made products every single time will certainly increase the value of the products in the eyes of Indonesians.

In this case, SMEs players could engage themselves in a good practice of product creation by following some of the important marketing points, such as branding¸ packaging and quality.

Branding

Branding is in what way we want our products to interpreted by the people, in the other words is to build the products identity and characteristics. How will people define our products and how they will use it? It is the way on how we should think about it, of course with a consideration of the local market condition regarding to culture, emotion, and economic condition.

Packaging

Meanwhile, packaging is everything you should do in order to keep your products as a reminder to the customers. Usually, first impression leaves a mark and here how packaging takes its part and it will take quite amount from your pocket to present the best of your products. Being a young entrepreneur, we have to be prepared with everything, pointly the budgets. Fortunately, our government is ready to help SMEs actors by providing the branchless banks and other incentives. In this way, SMEs could raise their products’ standards to an international standard.

Quality

Last but not the least is the quality. If those two points mentioned above are realized then, quality should be focused on because it will be the next thing that the people will look for in the products.
Mostly, SMEs in Indonesia fail at this stage. That is why we should produce our own products so there are no further comparison with the imported products. Bring out the products those are suitable to Indonesians.
If we are able to wrap these into one and present our products to the society, the consumers’ trust towards local products would be recycled. Based on my insight, there is no reason for our products to leave behind the other foreign products, not to be fanatic, but it is a precise thing. Because we have everything it takes to produce competent products those are able to open Indonesia’s trade blockages and compete in the Asia-Pacific region, like cultures, natural resources and the rising purchasing power of the people, whereas recently it was reported that Indonesia is going through a middle-class boom.

APEC’s Concern on SMEs: A Help

I truly believe that Indonesia also has other topics to bring to the APEC stage and discussing the regarding issues with the delegations from all over the world, but the most crucial thing during the emerging economy era, peculiarly around the Asia-Pacific region is the existence of Small and Medium Enterprises and its role as an asset for the Indonesian future economy.

Therefore, it is a good thing that APEC drives its attention towards the SMEs existence and its role as the one of the instruments to contribute to the national, regional or even in a global economy. This is a good chance for our local SMEs condition to be shared with the executive delegations as well as to be promoted at the upcoming APEC in October.

Wrap this up, young Indonesians power could be useful enough to raise Indonesian flag higher in the world’s economy and APEC is one of the platforms, moreover we are the host country for this year it makes the world to witness the true spirit of this equator country. (Shima Parawathy)

Opportunities - Not Simply

Hi my beloved readers... Here, I'm back with my latest post.

Do you ever notice how hard is it to get an opportunity or maybe to aware of it?
I believe that some of you do notice. A little  bit info for you all - there are good opportunities as well as the bad ones. You have to know the difference. The good ones, of course, those which bring a good turning point in your life, not be like the wrong ones, which can make your life even worse. Not all the opportunities are easy to get, aware of and to distinguish and vice versa.

In order to get an opportunity, you have to carve for it. Many people tend to have a mindset that an opportunity comes by itself when the time is right, but actually it is not a wrong thing if you could make its way easier and faster to find you. The harder you find them, the easier you get them and know better which are positively influential enough in your life. The next thing you have to do is to act smart when offered an opportunity. See will it be good enough for you or not.

Opportunities will always come, no matter how many times, as long as you are a "good catcher". So in my view, there is no "Opportunity only comes once". Start to search, find and dig for opportunities, then decide which are the best for you and people around you.

Thank you :)
Have a beloved day, my beloved readers!

Holiday, let's make the most of it!

You know the feeling, when you have finished everything in your college or school and ready to welcome a long damn awesome holiday. How hilarious is that?  Even though you are not really sure if your holiday would be awesome enough like what you expect. But, you sure have the to-do list during your holiday.

By the way, I've just finished my whole Diploma course and will be going to attend the Advance Diploma soon. So that's why I want to share a bit of my free-as-bird feeling with my beloved readers and how should a real holiday be like.

As a Media student, I want my holiday activities to be around media. Not denying the TV and Internet. You don't say! :D I think, not only "think" but will go to make the most of it. Engage in more positive activities that would bring a good outcome for me.

Yeah, we should make the most of it. Even though it is a holiday, when most of us assume that it is the only time to enjoy ourselves, but still if you enjoy yourself by wasting your time, it will be useless for you and your life. Make the most of it doesn't mean you also have to waste till the most of it, right?

I suggest you as a young human being to occupy your holiday with things like reading books, write, do some sport, social works, travel or pursue the things that you have done yet because of your tight schedule before. There are a lot of things you can do if you find, want and try to do. Just do not waste your holiday, because time is too precious to be wasted just like that.

So people, enjoy your holiday and have fun! :)

One-sided lovers. Who to blame?

Actually, this is the continuation from my last post. Do you remember people? You are welcome to sneak a peek at my last post. :)

So, after having a thought that one-sided love is not only experienced by me amongst billions and billions people on the earth. Maybe their stories are worse than mine.

For us, who get struck by one-sided love, surely know how it feels. Sometimes, we "loose' our mind and blame the one we love, blame ourselves, blame our competitors, blame the others who even do not have any connection with us, blame life, and blame God.

In my case. I cannot blame him because he doesn't know that I love him. I can blame myself for not telling him, but still cannot because I am a girl, plus I am not that close with him. What he might think about me then. So shameful for me. It is my principle. Blame my heart to fall for him? A big NON-SENSE. Should I blame the girls those are qualified than me? For a moment, YES and Maybe. But NO, I am perfect in my own way.
Conclusion, I'm tired of finding a good target to blame.

So, wake up, peeps!! Blaming is not a solution. I remember, my crush's sister said that if we are meant to be then, we will be together. Yes, this is quite right. Let us ask the time, how it will do everything. When the time is right, everything will be right. Let's say if you are becoming far far way from him or her, you should forget about them, even though I know it's not easy to forget just like that. At least you can try. But the choices are yours, because you know better than anybody else. Just go with the flow. Love cannot be forced.

"Love is like a butterfly. If you try to chase it. It will keep flying away. But when you let it go, it will keep coming to you." - Unknown

One-sided Love. I have and am experiencing.

Hmm...
It is a bit awkward I posted about LOVE, but considers the name of this blog is "What We (I) Feel", so maybe I should. By the way, this is also my own experience which most of my friends know but they might never know the true feelings that I feel inside of me.

Here, it goes.

I fell in love with a guy. Let me describe him. He is tall, thin, almost curly haired, fair skinned, brilliant, friendly, kindhearted, humble and the worst part is he is popular. Why is it worse? Because that is why, he has many women chase after him. And me, is just so-so. I cannot say myself is pretty, beautiful or like such. I am not even can be compared to him. But one thing I can say is that I am really in love with him, even though  I did not really believe that it is love, because it could have been just a crush like every girl has in their teenage. After a few months == this quote caught my eyes.

It said like that and yeah, confirmed it was and is a love. I cannot control myself for putting a thing called "LOVE" in my heart towards him. So so so in love. I cannot describe how did it feel at that time. I hope, you guys know that. Yeah, it is all about joy, happy, peaceful, beautiful and dreamy, when you are falling in love. That love is the one has me in faith that maybe he also can feel the same thing for me but in fact, I was too far from the expectation. I think, I am being one-sided. Yes, one-sided for real. One-sided for three years, is not a simple thing to face. I was fed up. Sometimes, I feel that I am over him but when I see his pictures, then I realize, it becomes stronger.

However, I cannot do anything. He actually doesn't know that I like him, ooops, not like but love him, I am not close with him too. I don't want to tell him, because I'm a girl and I'm afraid I might screw everything, as well as the fact he might think about me. FYI, that love still remains till now, never fade. Maybe it will, sometime. But when, not sure!

For all of my wonderful readers, have you been one-sided before?

Life is Awesome.. Enjoy it!

Life... How can you describe it?

There's no word you can describe life except "AWESOME".
Ya, I don't agree if some people say that life is pathetic or life is sucks or other stupid things about life.
They always say that they want to get out of this world or they can't survive anymore.

They are feeling like that because they can't face their life. The one thing that they good at is complaining, only complaining all the time. They are the one who being sucks and pathetic not their life. They are the one who make themselves can't survive not their life.

Come on... Maybe they can do something better than complaining about their life. If they are always complaining like that, then when they can do something better in their life, when they can see the good things about life?

Life is AWESOME, people!! Only if you know how and what should you do to make it awesome. Not only sit there, without doing anything and just complaining. Maybe I can give you some tips so that you can see how awesome life is...

  • First ---- stop complaining.
  • Second ---- feel grateful always.
  • Third ---- think positive.
  • Fourth ---- believe in yourself.
  • Fifth ---- follow your heart.
  • Sixth ---- set your goals in life.
  • Seventh ---- do the best always.
  • Eighth ---- no regrets.
  • Ninth ---- always smile.
  • Tenth ---- ENJOY!

I'm not telling you to follow exactly all of those tips. Those are just simple ways to see how awesome life is through my eyes. There are still a lot of ways, choose and do what is right for you. So maybe, in that way, you can know how awesome your life is through your eyes.

Isn't it awesome...? YES!

Thanks,
Full of love from me.. :)

God Knows to Judge Better...

There are a lot of mistakes that we have did in our lives even we are still doing other mistakes which can't be realized by us. These mistakes can be missunderstood by other people who never knew for who we are. They're just ahead for judgements and to point out our mistakes infront of anybody, everybody, anywhere, everywhere. For me, they don't have any right to do that to us.

Only our God, the almighty who creates us knows how to judge, who to judge, where to judge and when to judge. Not them, who only pretend that they know everything about us, in and out. So this is the comparison between people and God? Although both can't be compared. But this is needed so we never ever felt that everything we do is wrong and not accepted by others.

Forget about them who judge us because they never knew the problems we had and what we faced till we came with the all the mistakes. The only person that knows the exact things we feel would be GOD. We never need others acceptances on what we do. We just have to follow our heart along with the logic of our mind. God knows to judge better.

No need to be afraid. Keep your head up always. So... you know what to do and what to say because that's what we (I) feel....
